About HealingBridge Therapy

HealingBridge was founded by Jonathan Shippey, a licensed marriage and family therapist in practice since 2000. He operates under the belief that couples therapy cannot be effective unless there is an atmosphere of care and respect. Only in a caring atmosphere can a couple have the safety to dive into their relationship.

Based in Louisville, KY, Jonathan is the only Advanced Gottman Certified Relationship Therapist between the cities of Nashville and Cincinnati. This method of therapy is solution-focused and incredibly hope-giving in its application.

Based on the research of Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the Gottman Method focuses on what makes marriages succeed or fail and emphasizes a nuts and bolts approach to improving relationships. By providing specific tools to help deepen friendship and intimacy in the relationship, he works with couples to help grow an appreciation of the relationship’s strengths and to gently navigate through vulnerabilities.

About the Gottman Method

Jonathan’s practice is all about repairing, rebuilding, and strengthening the connection between couples. “Small things often” is a concept within the Gottman Method he uses: you only need to take one small step at a time. And if both people in a partnership are willing to take the small steps, they will bridge the connection in their relationship and always have this connection to fall back on when times get tough.

Jonathan was personally trained by Drs. John and Julie Gottman at their Seattle Relationship Institute. He regularly leads the “Art and Science of Love” weekend workshop for couples and the Level 1, 2, & 3 Gottman Method Trainings for Clinicians. He is among a select few whom John and Julie have invited to assist with private retreats in their home on Orcas Island, Washington. He is one of only 25 Advanced Clinical Trainers worldwide, designated by the Gottman Institute, and serves as a Consultant for those wishing to become certified in the Gottman Method.

How do I start couples therapy?

  • Schedule an Appointment

The Gottman Method works best when couples schedule their first 4 appointments within 4 weeks. From there, we work with each couple’s individual needs.

  • Intake Forms

Once you schedule an appointment, we will send you a few questions so we can better understand what you want out of the practice.
